silverfire

silverfire (April 21, 1988) is mainly a karaoke timer, QC, and encoder for whichever group suits his current mood. Known for timing dialogue in under 20 minutes and for masturbating to 500-line QC reports. During work on Gundam SEED Destiny in the summer 2005 season, he developed a scene timing utility that uses multiple thresholds and optical scene detection. Also an active member of LosslessONE releasing music rips of Japanese music, and as a beta tester and moderator for µTorrent
On April 1, 2006, he masterminded an April Fools' prank in which fake episodes of Eureka seveN episodes 34-39 were released through BitTorrent on Tokyotosho at 01:24GMT. The fake episodes consisted of the real third opening sequence followed by a black screen with the words 'You got punked.' in the center. The actual AVI data covered roughly 67MiB of each 233MiB file, while the remaning space was padded with chunks of the PV for the fourth opening song, 'sakura' by NIRGILIS. The torrent totaled 1487.4MiB, and was downloaded several thousand times. The rumors of wasting the bandwidth that Nanashi paid for with donations were fully unfounded, as he was the sole initial seeder of the prank torrent. The fallout from the fake episodes resulted in multiple flame threads posted on Nanashi's home page, 4chan, SomethingAwful, GameFAQs, and several other sites. A conservative estimate of the bandwidth wasted based on tracker statistics prior to deletion of the torrent showed roughly 3800 completed downloads, resulting in upwards of 11TiB of data transferred.
In episode 15 of Code Geass released by gg, a software exploit implemented by him at the request of kodachrome resulted in VLC being unable to display subtitles regardless of subtitle track selected. The original exploit began as a known limitation of VLC's subtitle rendering engine in displaying SSA comments. Several days prior to the episode's release, silverfire wrote a mIRC script that would systematically fill all subtitle lines with a 256-byte pseudorandom alphanumeric comment, which was intended to display the entire comment on the media player's rendered video as a result of the software limitation. However, subsequent testing revealed that instead of displaying a comment that would fill the entire screen, the subtitles were incapable of being displayed. The effect was immediate as gg's IRC channel had numerous users inquiring about the 'missing' subtitles shortly after release.
