Sabbu

Sabbu was a subtitling program written by Kryptolus in 2004 primarily designed to simplify the timing process as a potential replacement for Sub Station Alpha. The first public release (beta version) was announced on September 10, 2004, offering several new features, the most notable being the removal of restrictions on audio format, support for ASS format, UTF-8/UTF-16 coded scripts, and a video interface which allows the timer to preview their timed results.

Unlike SSA and Aegisub, Sabbu was supported not only on Microsoft Windows, but also on Linux, allowing users of Linux operating systems to use it as well. The only drawback to this flexibility is that Sabbu is dependent on the GTK+ graphical user interface. Users at times have criticized that using Sabbu with different versions of GTK+ have led to unpredictable crashes, corrupted scripts and general instability. However, despite the lack of changes on the official homepage, Sabbu's code was a continuous work in progress; many revisions were released internally for beta testing on a regular basis.

The last known version of Sabbu is 0.3.0, released November 26, 2005 under the GPL license. On July 9, 2006, Kryptolus announced in his IRC channel that development on the program was indefinitely discontinued.

<kryptolus> Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have any time I will be able to dedicate to sabbu. So I guess sabbu can now be considered no longer maintaned.

As of 2007, the official website (http://www.sabbu.com) no longer exists.
