Editing

In fansubbing, Editing generally refers to the process of examining, correcting, rewording and rewriting a translated script from a translator so that the dialogue is intelligible to viewers. This is usually done in Sub Station Alpha (SSA), Sabbu, Aegisub, or even in Windows Notepad.

Since not all translators are good at English, the resultant translation at times can be very difficult to edit. This makes editing a very important step, so much so that skilled and experienced editors are often a fundamental part of good fansubbing groups, second only to good translations.

Tasks

• To edit/rewrite a Japanese translation into a coherent sentence of the native language.
• The right to:
  • Rearrange word order
  • Watch the raw anime episode with the audio for more effective editing
  • Fit dialogue to the style of the character
  • Replace words using more natural/intelligible synonyms, words, and expressions
  • Correct spelling/grammar
  • Consult/cooperate with the translator, or other members during editing
  • Split long lines or join short lines within bounds of timing
• Bonus abilities include:
  • Extensive experience in editing anime fansubs
  • Marginal knowledge/exposure in Japanese
