Bittorrent

Ξ The following article is a stub. You can help by expanding it.

Bittorrent is a file swarming protocol developed by Brahm Cohen. Similar to peer 2 peer networks, downloaders will upload to other people simulataneously as they download the file, thus requiring far less bandwith from the fansub groups' servers themselves, however with bittorrent, each file has it's own individual network. Bittorrent is by far the most popular way of obtaining fansubs, as it is tailor-made to distribute large files which have a large initial demand. Bittorrent can be said to be partially responsible for the growth in popularity of fansubbing over the past number of years, as it is easy to use and often very fast, compared to previous methods of distribution.
